4 Areas 4th Grade Math Will Help You

Math is the universal language. It is actually one subject in school that will most definitely be used throughout your life no matter what segment of life you may be in. Not only will it be used, but it will be something that you will need in your day to day life. Here are 4 areas that 4th grade math will help in your daily life: cooking, sewing, budgeting, and helping your elementary-aged child with their math.

Cooking

Have you ever tried doubling a recipe without using math? It becomes even more difficult once you start trying to add fractions while doubling a recipe. It may be easy to add ½ cup and ½ cup, but it may come in handy when you start trying to add ⅓ cup to ⅓ cup. Now it’s not as simple. That 4th grade math from years ago will come in handy when the fractions become a little messy. Or what if you don’t need to double your recipe, but just double it by half? Then it becomes finding out what half of ⅓ is and then adding that answer to ⅓ to get your total amount of sugar or whatever ingredient it may be!

Sewing

Sewing can be a fun hobby for anyone. But again, it is not as easy as just picking up a piece of material and pushing down on the sewing pedal and making something beautiful. A lot goes into sewing that most people don’t quite understand. Measuring segments and adding inches, feet, or even yards seems simple, but can become very complex. Measurements must be precise. It can become much more complicated than just a 4th grade level when you start adding diameters together; then it is on a whole new level of complexity.

Helping Your Elementary-Aged Child With Their Math

Even the first day of school math can be a challenge. But these days, we as parents did not learn math the way they are teaching it in school. Luckily we have our memories to rely on in certain areas of math that will always stay true. But also, there are ways to research online how to help our young elementary-aged kids with their math homework when they come to us with questions that we are not sure how to help with.

Budgeting

Budgeting is something we could all learn a little bit more about; even if we have never attempted before. There are so many things that can distract us from the way we budget our money and in some cases it can get out of hand quickly if proper steps are not taken. It seems like it may be very obvious that budgeting is just adding and maybe subtracting numbers here and there but if we don’t watch closely, it can become a slippery slope. There are many benefits of budgeting wisely and it really only takes a 4th grade level of math to be able to do so in a beneficial way.
